I’ve dreamed about Shelby and Cody’s mountain wedding outside of Asheville, North Carolina for quite some time now. From meeting these two for a fun couples session when they were wee babies just getting to college, to a car ride to Austin with Shelby and talking about her and Cody’s plans for the future a couple of years later, to a 3 hour car trip to Pedernales Falls for their engagement session.. only to get rained on 10 minutes after we got out of the car, which then led to a 3 hour car trip back looking like I’d cried my mascara off, to flying all the way from Texas to North Carolina with giddy excitement. It has been a long time coming, and I am so honored and proud to have had the amazing opportunity to see Cody and Shelby grow into two wonderful human beings that can now call each other husband and wife.
Their wedding day was a stunner. The little town outside of Asheville where Shelby’s family is from had a heat wave a few days before their big day, but it had finally cooled off a bit and the breeze made for the most perfect summer wedding. The view from the ceremony site was simply breath taking; I had to pinch myself when I first walked up to see it for myself. The little house that belongs to Shelby’s family and is a place she has fond childhood memories of could not have been a more perfect place for her to get ready in. It was all just so peaceful, joyful, and perfect.

Shelby was calm, ready to meet her groom for their first look, but before that, she had a sweet moment with her dad under the shade of the gorgeous tree that meets you when you come up the drive. After that, we placed Cody in position on top of the hill over looking the land and had quite the view of the mountains in background. It was awesome. Aren’t they just so adorable? Shelby’s brother couldn’t be at the wedding due to being deployed, but he was able to watch via facetime and they all got to talk to and have little celebrations with each other. Sometimes technology is pretty neat that way.
Since Shelby and Cody had somewhat of a destination wedding being from Texas and getting married in North Carolina, the wedding was fairly intimate. Something they had both longed for and wanted in their wedding day. It was so much fun getting to hang out with them and their closest friends and relatives. It really makes everyone feel as if they’re part of the family, and was a day I’m sure everyone will remember for years and years to come.
Shelby’s grandfather performed the marriage ceremony, and it was a sweet testament to the legacy he has given his children and grandchildren as a man of God.
Y’all, I have ALWAYS wanted to photograph a wedding reception under a tent. Don’t ask why. There is just something about them that seems so.. chic, ha! I was so excited when Shelby told me they were planning on doing a tent for their reception, and it was BEAUTIFUL!! I love all the details and personalization that went into creating this space that everyone danced the night way in.
